Year 5 Reading Fluency Assessment – The House With Chicken Legs (770 LM)

Brand new for 2023/24 is this fantastic reading fluency assessment resource.

This resource features an extract from The House With Chicken Legs by Sophie Anderson, which has a lexile measure (LM) of 770.

There is a pupil extract and then an adult mark-sheet including script and space to record pupil name, date of assessment and assessment scores.

Across Year 5, pupils should be able to read texts with a lexile score between 730 and 870 at a rate of 110 words per minute to be considered a “fluent” reader.

Pupil fluency should be assessed as follows in Year 5:

Building Fluency (BF) – Able to read a text at the prescribed speed with a lexile score between 730 and 799.

Almost Fluent (AF) – Able to read a text at the prescribed speed with a lexile score between 800 and 849.

Fluent (F) – Able to read a text at the prescribed speed with a lexile score of 850 or more.
