Hi! I’m Sophie, creator of the KS1 Writing Curriculum for FREDsTeaching!
I’ve been teaching for 14 years now, having started my first class teacher role a few days after my 21st birthday! I have taught Reception – Year 3 across three different schools and have lead EYFS and KS1.
My passion has always been early literacy and instilling a love of books in the children I teach. I have also trained as a Forest Schools teacher, sharing my love of the outdoors. I love classroom teaching, but teaching in the middle of a forest really is something special!
I left full-time class teaching when I had my children. I have two boys who keep me on my toes and have developed as much of a love of reading as I have. I now work in schools as a cover teacher and Forest Schools Leader, leaving me time to work on developing the KS1 Writing Curriculum for FREDsTeaching and to enjoy being part of busy family life!
Three interesting facts about me…
- I spent two summers volunteer teaching at a primary school in rural Uganda.
- I have trekked the Great Wall of China.
- I once met Barbara Windsor, in a sauna!
Favourite books…
Kids – Harry Potter, The Faraway Tree and anything by Roald Dahl (which I am now loving sharing with my own children)!
Adult – The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini and The Time Traveller’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. I also love books with a historical element, and particularly enjoyed Stephen Fry’s Greek Mythology series!
