Year 1 Writing Unit: The Tiny Seed - Recount

Brand new for 2025 is this awesome writing unit for KS1, specifically Year 1.

This unit uses two fantastic books – Paddington and Paddington at the Zoo by Michael Bond and with illustrations by R. W. Alley – to support children in building up to writing a letter and a set of instructions!

Designed to be used over a period of four weeks, there are a variety of vocabulary, oracy and writing tasks designed to build the children’s knowledge, understanding and application of the elements of the KS1 writing curriculum.

The unit covers a range of National Curriculum writing objectives including:

• Use adjectives to describe
• Begin to punctuate sentences using capital letters and full stops
• Use a capital letter for people, places and the personal pronoun I
• Use capital letter for days of the week
• Join word and clauses using and
• Speak sentences aloud before writing
• Make predictions based on what has happened so far
• Sequence sentences
• Edit and improve work
• Read aloud their writing for others
