Year 2 Writing Unit: Ada Twist, Scientist – Description

Brand new for 2025 is this awesome writing unit for KS1, specifically Year 2.

This unit uses the excellent book Ada Twist: Scientist, by Andrea Beaty and David Roberts, to support the children in writing descriptions.

Intended to be used over a period of two weeks, there are a variety of vocabulary, oracy and writing tasks designed to build the children’s knowledge, understanding and application of the elements of the KS1 writing curriculum.

The unit covers a range of National Curriculum writing objectives including:

• Learn and use adjectives, verbs and adverbs
• Use subordinating conjunctions
• Use commas in a list
• Use expanded noun phrases to describe
• Use punctuation correctly: capital letters, full stops, commas in a list
