Year 2 Writing Unit: George's Marvellous Medicine – Recipe

Brand new for 2025 is this awesome writing unit for KS1, specifically Year 2.

This unit uses the excellent book George’s Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl, to support the children in writing recipe instructions.

Intended to be used over a period of four weeks, there are a variety of vocabulary, oracy and writing tasks designed to build the children’s knowledge, understanding and application of the elements of the KS1 writing curriculum.

The unit covers a range of National Curriculum writing objectives including:

• Learn and use adjectives, verbs and adverbs
• Use possessive apostrophes
• Use conjunctions
• Summarise and predict
• Use commas in a list
• Use verbs and adverbs
• Use punctuation correctly: capital letters, full stops, commas in a list
• Plan writing
• Edit and improve writing
